MARKY RAMONE Announces New Dates, Video Appearance

February 25, 2005

Former RAMONES drummer Marky Ramone has posted the following message on the group's official web site:

"I will be playing three shows in Mexico, one in Tijuana, one at the Hard Rock in Mexico City, and Mexicala. I'll be doing a video shoot for a company called M.V.P. just playing the drums, so I don't have to explain my style to every punk rock drummer known or unknown. It will be for everyone, and for sure it will be different. Also I'm going to say that the RAMONES fans loved to hear and see Mickey Leigh perform in South America. The reviews were wonderful. We are very grateful that everyone had fun, which is all it was supposed to be..."

As previously reported, a musical based on the songs of the RAMONES called "Gabba Gabba Hey" is headed to the U.S. The musical director for the show is original RAMONES drummer Tommy Ramone, who told Launch Radio Networks that the story is set in and around the band's old New York City stomping grounds. "It's about a, a young kid who comes from an abusive home, (with an) abusive stepfather, (who) runs away to the Lower East Side, and gets into more trouble, and is redeemed through 18 RAMONES songs (chuckles) at the end," he said.

"Gabba Gabba Hey" has already premiered in Perth, Australia, and it's being staged in Germany this spring and at the Edinburgh Festival in Scotland this summer. The plan is for the show to begin running here in the U.S. in the fall.

RAMONES' theatrical documentary "End of the Century: The Story of the Ramones" will be released on DVD on March 15, and it will also air on the PBS series "Independent Lens" on April 26.
